MS150 2010 Day 2

Is it really possible? a second day with tail wind and no rain ? Lucky me !
I joined up with a fellow Norwegian and chanced the challenge route which goes through two state parks with some hills. My objective was to not walk any of the hills and I stayed on-bike all the time despite the front derailleur failing, locking me in on the middle ring.

As on day 1, we decided not to stop at the rest stop unless we ran out of fluids or food. I had to stop once before and once after lunch to refill, but only for a few minutes. We were also lucky in finding pace lines that kept us going at reasonable high speed.

We ended finishing in around 5 hours including a longer stop at lunch. Total time on bike was 4.5 hours, for me that is not bad for 120 km. This was the fastest ever and I did not feel like throwing the bike away after the finish, which is a good sign.

MS150 2010 Day 1

Compared to last year, the MS150 weather was fantastic. This was the first time I got tail wind and no rain, it could not be better. This year the only preparation I did was cycling to work...... a lot. I clocked in 1,600 kilometers (around 1,000 miles), but only in short distances, 30k a per day. Due to the Calgary winter I only got 2-3 rides in around 60k, however it looks like that really worked..

I mostly road alone and decided not to stop at too many rest stops apart from lunch. I had to lend my pump to someone stranded at the roadside. Turned out to be a pinhole leak which could be dealt with at next rest stop. I felt pretty good, the road bike was like a feather as all my preparation was done on a heavier MTB loaded with work stuff, much heavier than my trusted road bike.

All in all a nice day on Texas roads.
